I don't rant that often (no really, I don't) but this is one opportunity that I cannot resist because they hit it right to me and I caught it.
The morons over at Spirit Airlines have completely lost their minds. They are now so presumptuous as to think that we, their consumers, are stupid.
You see, they are now charging for carry on bags and trying to tell me that these fees are a good thing. In fact, Spirit CEO Ben Baldanza -- calls the fees "a consumer benefit". I was reading an ABC news story where he said something asinine where he compared what they are doing to "If you went to McDonald's and they only sold the value meal".........WTF.
What Spirit is going is deceptive, dishonest and downright freaking wrong. Here is how they think we are stupid. They can now advertise their lowest fair as say, $100.00. You search online and find that fare and think "Damn, good fair, I am going to grab it". This is when they bait and switch and now tell you "Well, that is the base fair, now if you want to bring a bag, that is $50.00, want a glass of water, that is $3.00" and so on and so on. The real reason they are doing this has nothing to do with consumer benefits, it has to do with cheating on their taxes. Because these little add ons are not part of the fare, they are not subject to federal taxes.
Here is how they hate you.... If they liked you, they would treat you like Southwest. Fair but with no B.S. Simple and truthful. Southwest charges exactly what they have to in order to make a profit. Instead, Spirit lies to you, treats you like garbage and pretends that you are an idiot. I had a friend like that once. I don't think that he has any friends left.
Did you know that on their new planes, the seats don't even recline. I am not a big fan of the guy in front of me reclining, but come on.
I would say that it is in the best interest of anyone in the meetings and events industry to make Spirit Airlines you official airline......Yes, your official airline....Spirit Airlines, your official "No Fly Airline".
