I actually love this little series I am doing, it has really spurred me to take a look at the people that I follow and ask "Why?"
Why is this person deserving of my time and my energy, why should I take 15 minutes out of my day to listen to them. Why do they matter.... some don't and this has actually led me to unfollow a few, turn off the spigot and close the door. It has also made me realize that I am the worst kind of twerp there is, I don't follow a lot of great people that are out there and I am taking the time this week to go back to the well and find more great people out there!
Here are a couple of people that I have followed for a very long time. They are also people that I count among my FaceBook friends as well.... that should tell you something because the FaceBook badge for me is given to a select few... not that I don't love everyone, quite the contrary, I think most people are great....
Starting off with:
The amazing Midori Connolly, a meeting or event has never had a greener friend. She is the owner of Pulse Staging and Events, the first sustainable - AV Staging company in the United States. This in itself is a remarkable achievement but Midori takes the time to help others in the industry make their events a little more green, a little more sustainable and a lot more attendee friendly. She often speaks at events, cementing her street cred as an industry expert (and an expert that talks the talk not just the bloviating BS that come out of others).
Midori is also fun to follow, I would guess that she know just about 1/2 the planet and takes the time to actually use Twitter as a communication tool and 2 way street, something I am sure the Twitter folks had in mind when they set the little blue bird free from the nest... have a look:

Now we are moving on to a different sort of industry expert... the kind that tells us stuff that we need to know and some we didn't know we needed but are sure glad that we found out....
Lisa is the Director of Marketing & Audience Development at Atlanta Metropolitan Publishing or Plan Your Meetings to you and me. Plan Your Meetings is one of my must reads and Lisa is one of the reasons why.
Lisa uses Twitter as an all encompassing venue for sharing information and topics that every meeting planner needs as well as information that interests her. Lisa's Twitter profile says it best, "Tweeting my passions". This is a nice refreshing change of place from people like me that stick to topic 99% of the time.
Like Midori, she also uses Twitter as a communication tool and is quick to retweet relevant information and I actually learn quite a bit from the info she sends down the pipe (Thanks for the Tweet on #RR).. I am always quick to read what Lisa tweets because I know 95% of the time it is going to be something that is relevant to not only me, but the people that follow me.
Beyond that, Lisa is a genuinely nice person and that is something that actually shines through in 140 characters or less:

I have no doubt that you will!! Keep up the amazing work!
